Your archives never leave your device — 100% local processing

Unrar Online

Extract RAR archives in your browser — no WinRAR needed. RAR4 and RAR5 supported.

0 B uploaded — this page has not sent your files to any server?

Private by design — RAR extraction runs right inside your browser, so your files are never uploaded anywhere. Safe even for work documents and personal photos. How this differs from upload-based sites — most online archive tools upload your archive to a server, unpack it there, and promise to delete it after a while. If it is password-protected you have to hand over the password too, and until deletion your files are sitting on someone else's server. zipmoa has no upload step at all. The more sensitive the archive — bundled contracts, scanned IDs, a company backup — the more that difference matters.

How to open a RAR file on a Mac or a locked-down PC without installing anything

RAR is the format WinRAR produces, so the Mac’s built-in Archive Utility can’t open it, and on a work PC without install rights you can’t add WinRAR or 7-Zip either. This page unpacks both RAR4 and RAR5 archives inside your browser, lists what’s inside, and lets you save individual files or convert the whole thing to a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

A closer look

RAR is a proprietary format owned by WinRAR’s developer. The code for unpacking it is public, but its license forbids using that code to rebuild a RAR compressor, which is why 7-Zip and most other tools can extract RAR but never create it. zipmoa is no different: extraction only. Two generations are in circulation, RAR5, used since WinRAR 5.0, and the older RAR4, and this page handles both. Windows 11 gained built-in RAR support in File Explorer with a 2023 update, but Windows 10, work PCs held back from updates, Macs and phones still need extra software.

When you drop a RAR, an extraction engine bundled with the page unpacks every file into browser memory and lists them with their folder paths and sizes. Use Save to download files one at a time, or Save all as ZIP to get a single “original-extracted.zip” that keeps the folder structure. The second option effectively converts RAR to ZIP, which is handy when you need to pass the material on to someone on a Mac or a phone. One limitation matters: this browser engine cannot decrypt RAR encryption, so password-protected RAR archives have to be opened with desktop software.

How to use it

When it helps

A RAR received on a MacOpen material a Windows user sent as RAR without installing Keka or The Unarchiver first.
Converting RAR to ZIP for a teamWhen a colleague can’t open RAR, share the archive made with Save all as ZIP instead.
A work PC with no install rightsExtract the drawings or documents a partner sent in a RAR on a machine where security policy blocks new software.
Only the files you needPick a few files out of a large RAR and keep your disk and Downloads folder free of the rest.

Common snags

A split RAR (part1.rar, part2.rar) won’t extract.Multi-volume RAR sets, named part1.rar, part2.rar or .rar, .r00, .r01, need every piece read together to rebuild files that span volumes, and this page reads only a single file per run. Put all the pieces in one folder and open the first one with WinRAR or 7-Zip on Windows, or Keka or The Unarchiver on a Mac, or ask the sender for an unsplit archive.
The password is right, but it says “The password looks missing or incorrect.”An encrypted RAR does make the password field appear, but the page’s browser engine cannot decrypt RAR, so this message shows up even with the correct password. Open encrypted RARs with desktop software such as WinRAR, 7-Zip or Keka. Archives without a password are not affected.
It says the archive “may be corrupted or unsupported.”This can happen when a download stopped early and the end of the RAR is missing. Compare the file size with what the sender has and download it again. Dropping just one piece of a split set doesn’t extract properly either.
A large RAR freezes the tab.All extracted files are held in browser memory, so if the unpacked total exceeds what your device can spare, the page slows down or the tab reloads. Save all as ZIP adds another copy on top. Open multi-gigabyte archives on a computer and close other tabs first.

Tip If you need to pass a received RAR along, convert it with Save all as ZIP first, so the recipient can open it on any operating system without extra software.

Unrar Online FAQ

How do I open a RAR file on Mac?

macOS Archive Utility cannot open RAR files. Just drop the RAR onto this page — it extracts in your browser with nothing to install. Works the same on Windows, Linux, and phones.

Is RAR5 supported?

Yes. Both the older RAR4 and the current RAR5 format are supported.

What about password-protected RARs?

Not yet. The extraction engine used here doesn’t support RAR encryption, so even the correct password won’t open it. For those, use a desktop app such as 7-Zip or The Unarchiver. Password-protected ZIP files do work.

Is it safe?

Extraction happens entirely inside your browser, so files never travel over the network.
